    August Malmström was a Swedish artist who became famous for his depictions of children's motifs, particularly "Grindslanten" (1885). He began painting children's motifs in the 1860s and gained recognition for his work, including "The Last Couple Out" (National Museum), which was exhibited at the Academy of Fine Arts and the World's Fair in Paris. After a ten-year hiatus, Malmström resumed painting children's motifs in the mid-1880s, with a focus on individual children's fates and psychological perspectives. Malmström was born near Medevi and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm before traveling to Düsseldorf, Paris, and Italy.
