    August Schluter was a German painter, watercolourist, lithographer, and writer. He was born in 1858 in Münster, Germany, and studied at the academy in Düsseldorf with Andreas Müller, Heinrich Lauenstein, and Peter Janssen. He later became a pupil of the landscape class of Eugen Dücker from 1880 to 1887. Schluter went on study trips through northern Germany, Italy, and Switzerland and attended the Düsseldorf art exhibitions from the mid-1880s. He was a representative of the 'Düsseldorf School of Painting' and became a member of the Düsseldorf artists' association 'Malkasten' in 1893. Schluter was active in Düsseldorf and died in 1928.
