About Avanzino Nucci

    Avanzino Nucci was active primarily in Rome during the late 1500s. His paintings appear in many Roman Churches, notably San Silvestro al Quirinale and San Paolo Fuori le Mura.

    Nucci revealed that he was influenced by the various artistic currents that were evolving in Rome at the turn of the century: on the one hand by adopting late-mannerist traits and on the other by exploring the naturalist manner of Roncalli and the Cavalier d’Arpino.

    It should be noted that Nucci collaborated on various projects with the latter on several occasions towards the end of the sixteenth century. Leone de Castris (see literature), however, considers the present paintings to be the artist’s first known works, and dates them to around 15...
