Axel Hjalmar Ender was a Norwegian painter and sculptor born in 1853 in Asker, near Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. He studied at the Royal School of Arts and Crafts Kristiania, where he was a pupil of the sculptor Julius Olavus Middelthun and briefly studied at the painting school of Johan Fredrik Eckersberg.
He continued his studies in Stockholm and Munich, and also spent time in Paris. Ender mounted exhibitions of the Christiania Kunstforening from 1872 to 1889 and maintained a studio in Kristiania-Hammersborg.
He was honored with the Knight's Cross of the Order of Saint Olav for his Tordenskiold statue in Oslo, which he worked on from 1891 to 1901.
Ender died in Kristiania in 1920.
