Bambo Sibiya is a contemporary South African artist born in 1986 in Spring, South Africa. He currently lives and works in Johannesburg. Sibiya's work focuses on the spirit of 'Ubuntu Nhabantu', which means 'I am what I am because of who we all are' in Zulu philosophy. He uses figurative works to explore the interconnected humanity. Sibiya's paintings are based on documentary visual references from the 1970s, which he restages using models. He is particularly interested in depicting the experiences of young men and women who moved from rural areas of South Africa to Johannesburg during Apartheid in search of work.
