Barthélémy Toguo was born in Cameroon in 1967 and began his studies at Abidjan School of Fine Arts, Cote d'Ivoire. Since then, he has studied both in France and Germany, at the Graduate School of Art in Grenoble and the Dusseldorf Kunstakademie. Trained as a sculptor, he later began to experiment with film and performance, before taking up watercolour in 1998.
