    French-born painter Bernard Frize is a process-driven formalist, in the Greenbergian sense, who states quite forcefully that his art is about painting itself, and not a vehicle for expressing feelings or recreating fragments of reality. He conceives of himself as a laborer, or craftsman, who produces paintings. His interest as a painter is in the paint, the tools, and the application of the paint on the canvas, in forms and patterns that interest him.
