    ARTIST BIO: " Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri was born around 1927 at Mount Denison, near Yuendumu, Northern Territory but sadly passed away in September 2015. Billy was the Cousin of renowned artist Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, who he grew up with after being raised by his aunt from age 11, as Billy’s mother was killed in the Coniston massacre.

    Billy began painting in the Papunya Tula art movement in the early 1970’s, and was the artist behind the ‘Honey Ant Dreaming’ mural on the wall of the school. In addition, Billy was named one of the first chairmen of Papunya Tula.
