Born in Berlin, Birgit Brenner studied communication design at the College of Design in Darmstadt between 1985 and 1990. In the following five years she deepened her artistic training at the University of the Arts (HdK) in Berlin, where she attended the class of Rebecca Horn and graduated as her master student in 1996.

Birgit Brenner has become a multi-award winning artist and has been teaching as a professor at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, since 2007. Her specialist areas include visual arts, photography, drawings and new media. Brenner has participated in numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad.
