    Bonaventura Peeters was a Flemish marine artist born in Antwerp, Belgium. He came from a family of accomplished painters, including his siblings Jan the Elder, Gillis the Elder, and Catharina. Peeters was known for his carefully registered views of ships and ports, as well as his maps recording military engagements such as the Siege of Kallo in 1638. He was arguably the foremost Flemish marine artist of the mid-seventeenth century, and his artwork style was characterized by dark, stormy vistas and foaming seas...
