    Born Jan. 11, 1906, in Balchik, Bulgaria, Boris Caragea was a Rumanian sculptor. He was the honored Artist of the Socialist Republic of Rumania, or SRR in 1951 and was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of the SRR.

    Caragea graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Bucharest in 1932. He is a professor at the Institute of Fine Arts in Bucharest. He created monuments to the Soviet soldier-liberator in Ia-§i (1947) and to V. I. Lenin in Bucharest (1960)—both in bronze.

    He also created easel sculptures (The Meeting, 1950; Victory, 1957; both in bronze, Museum of Arts of the SRR, Bucharest).

    Caragea has been awarded the State Prize of the SRR (1950 and1953).
