    Bryon Gardner was one of Oregon's leading abstract expressionists of the 20th century. He was born in Portland in 1930 and studied with Louis Bunce in his home town. Gardner then traveled to New York for artistic education at the Brooklyn Art Museum. He became influenced by the dynamic abstract expressionist movement while in New York, and returned to Oregon totally affected by this revolutionary concept.

    He became a major part of the modern movement in Oregon and exhibited extensively. These exhibits included one man shows at the Portland Art Museum, Marylhurst College, Reed College, and Corvallis Art Center in Oregon, besides numerous venues outside the state.
