    Carl Irmer, the German landscape painter and graphic artist, was born in Babitz near Wittstock. Carl Irmer received his first lessons from the landscape painter August Becker in Dessau. Later, he studied under Hans Gude at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf, where he settled. Irmer went on study trips within Germany, Vienna, to Paris and to Brussels, but lived very secluded.

    He received several awards such as the Vienna World Exhibition medal in 1873, and from 1860 to 1892 exhibited regularly paintings and watercolors at the Berliner Akademie-Ausstellung, from 1893 at the Große Berliner Kunstausstellung. In 1891 he became professor of landscape painting at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. Irm...
