    Carl Offterdinger (1829-1889) Carl Offterdinger was a German painter, illustrator and caricaturist of the 19th century, who is primarily known for his illustrations of fairy tales and books for the use of children.

    The artist illustrated famous literary works such as E.T.A. Hoffmann's Nutcracker' Daniel Defoes legendary novel Robinson Crusoe'or Jonathan Swifts Gulliver's Travels and a range of fairy tales of the Grimm Brothers came to life through the depictions painted by Offterdinger. (msc)
