    Swedish artist Carl Reinhold Callmander was born in 1840.

    After completing his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, Reinhold Callmander traveled through the care of widow Queen Josefina to Antwerp and Munich for further studies.

    In 1877 he returned and settled in Gothenburg. There Callmander developed a rich business in various fields and became one of the more prominent figures in the city's artistic life. Callmander was one of the initiators of the art and literature society Gnistan, whose name he proposed at the statutory meeting in 1878, founded on the model of the Society Idun in Stockholm.

    The artist passed away in 1922.
