Carl Schultze is an outstanding German landscape painter. The artist became involved with Düsseldorf in the early years of his career. He was educated at the local Academy of Fine Arts, including in the studio of Georg Oeder, who had a significant influence on him. His numerous journeys also influenced the subject matter of his works and the way of understanding nature. Schultze traveled to France, the Netherlands and Switzerland many times in search of inspiration and suitable locations. As it seems, however, the most important thing in his art was the native German landscape. This was probably due to the environment of the Düsseldorf school in which landscape played a key role.
