About Carlo Pittara

  • Biography

Carlo Pittara was an Italian artist born in Turin. He studied at the Accademia Albertina and later in Geneva and Paris, where he was influenced by the Barbizon school and artists such as Jean-Baptiste-Camille-Corot and Charles-Emile-Jacque. He returned to Rome and is believed to have initiated a group of landscape painters known as the Scuola di Rivara, who painted outdoors in the romantic, naturalistic, and realistic styles. The present work, The bee chaser, depicts a group of children enjoying a summer day outdoors and was likely painted during one of Pittara's summers in Rivara
