    Carmelo Cappello was born in 1912 in Italy.

    Carmelo Cappello was one of the most important Italian sculptors of the modern period. Cappello studied in Milan from 1930 and with Marino Marini in Monza.

    He exhibited for the first time in 1937, followed by numerous further participations in exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale (1948-1954, 1958), the Rome Quadriennale (1947, 1955) and the Milan Triennale (1951-1957).

    In 1959 he was invited to documenta II in Kassel. Starting from Marini and Moore, he later found his way to completely abstract sculptures made of circles and ellipses.

    Carmelo Cappello passed away in 1996.
