Upon resignation of his military commission, he studied law at Columbia University. By 1884 he had moved to Portland, OR where he practiced law until 1919. Upon resignation of his military commission, he studied law at Columbia University. By 1884 he had moved to Portland, OR where he practiced law until 1919.
