Following graduation from West Point in 1874, Wood fought in several Indian campaigns (one was against Chief Joseph of the Nez Percé) and explored the Yukon and Alaska. Upon resignation of his military commission, he studied law at Columbia University. By 1884 he had moved to Portland, OR where he practiced law until 1919. Colonel Wood left his wife and, with the poet Sara Field, settled in Saratoga, CA in 1929 and remained there until his death on Jan. 22,... Read full biography

Colonel Wood left his wife and, with the poet Sara Field, settled in Saratoga, CA in 1929 and remained there until his death on Jan. 22, 1944.
