    Charles Copeland (1885-1945) was born in Thomaston, Maine. He was a member of the Boston Art Club and the Boston Society of Water Color Painters.

    Copeland's works span a variety of styles and subjects. He produced soft-toned, lyrical landscapes in both oil and watercolor in the romantic style of the nineteenth century, as well as marine paintings and seascapes. Neverthless, as a popular illustrator his work encompassed a wide range of subjects.

    Copeland exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago; at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and at the Boston Art Club from 1884 to 1909.
