    Contemporary surrealist painter of figures, animals and imaginary landscapes Cheryl Laemmle, born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1956, has received a variety of awards. They include, in 1980, a Creative Artists Public Service grant; in 1984, the Vera G. List award; and, in 1985, a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Her work is in the collections of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., and Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City.

    Laemmle received her B.A. degree in 1974 from Humboldt State University, Arcata, California, and her M.F.A. degree in 1978 from Washington State University, Pullman.
