    Horneman was a Danish artist who attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1780. He left Denmark in 1787 and traveled for sixteen years, perfecting himself in portrait miniatures. During this period, he visited Italy and Vienna, where he studied Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein, Heinrich Füger, and Daniel Chodowiecki. In 1803, Horneman returned to Denmark and was appointed a painter of miniatures in the Danish royal county. He was known as the portrait painter who filled the void after the deaths of Cornelius Høyer and Jens Juel.
