    Clara Federica Montalba was born in 1842. She is best known for her avarelles from Venice. She was the oldest of four daughters of Swedish-born artist Anthony Rubens Montalba (1812-1884) and Emeline, née Davies. All of the daughters achieved success as artists, and Clara was the greatest of them. Clara Montalba studied in Paris under Eugene Isabey and later in Venice at the Accademia di Belle Arti. She was called an early feminist in 1886 by Garret Fawcett. In 1892 she was admitted to the Watercolor Society as proof of her great artistic talent. During the 1870s, she often participated in Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions as well as at the World Exhibition in Paris 1889....
