    Claude Schurr was the son of Julien Schürr-Linovski and Suzanne Weishaner. He began painting at the age of seven and says: "I always knew that I would paint because the idea of doing something else never came to me in mind". After the Pasteur High School in Neuilly-sur-Seine, he studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris from 1938 to 1942. From 1950 Schurr's studio was located rue Émile-Allez. He became a professor at the Académie Julian in Paris in 1952, then professor at the National School of Applied Arts and Crafts in 1956. He was a member of the jury of the National School of Fine Arts from 1962 to 1968, then created with Jean-Maxime Relange Academy of Port Royal in 1969.
