    Primarily known as a figure and landscape painter, Clement Rollins Grant was born in Freeport, Maine in 1848. At the age of eighteen, he traveled to Europe, spending time in Great Britain and France.

    Grant worked in Portland, Maine, before establishing a studio at 12 West Street in Boston by 1882. He was a member of the Boston Art Club, where his works were exhibited between 1877 and 1905.

    Thirty-six examples of his work were exhibited by Boston dealer Noyes & Blakeslee (exhibition dates unrecorded) and another twenty at the Boston gallery of J. Eastman Chase in 1884.
