    Clovis François Auguste Didier, born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1858 and passing away in Versailles in 1939, was a French painter known for his specialization in landscapes and genre scenes of bourgeois life. He studied under notable artists such as Jean-Léon Gérôme, Auguste-Barthélemy Glaize, and Emmanuel Lansyer, making his debut at the Paris Salon in 1880. Didier was a member of the Salon des Artistes Français from 1899 onwards. His attention to detail and refinement in depicting objects like crystal and silverware, as well as the delicate gestures of figures in his paintings, contributed to his success. One of his paintings, featuring intricate details like monogrammed napkins bearing his initials, even became a popular vintage postcard print.
