    Constant Montald was born in 1862. He was very young when he discovered his gifts. His hometown awarded him a scholarship that allowed him to work in Paris in 1885 and 1886. He won the Prix de Rome in 1886 and took a long trip to Italy, Greece, Turkey and Egypt. Montald became professor of Wall Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels in 1896. A great friend of Emile Verhaeren, member of the Royal Academy of Belgium, Montald took part in 1890 Circle "For Art" animated by Delville and intended to regenerate the monumental art. In 1896, he participated in the Idealist Art Show and became a founding member of "Monumental Art" in 1920. He painted many large compositions, including works still preserved at the Palais du Cinquantenaire.
