Cris Cruz, most famous for his floral watercolors, was born in Sampaloc, Manila, Philippines. Cruz took up BFA advertising in the University of the Philippines in 1957. He is an advertising first batcher under teachers Dominador Castaneda, Ireneo Miranda, and Dr. Toribio Herrera; as well as sculptors Ambrosia Morales and Anastacio Caedo.
