A graduate of Otis Art Institute, Los Angeles in 1968, Daniel Cytron worked briefly as a draftsman for the architect Richard Neutra. Beginning in 1967 until Francis' death Cytron worked with Sam Francis, first as a studio assistant. After gaining a coating technology diploma, he worked with Sam developing paint, ink and miscellaneous coatings for Sam Francis projects.
