    Davey W. Nichol (1890 – 1977)

    An important Canadian decoy carver David “Davey” W. Nichol (aka: D.W. Nichol; and, rarely aka: Davy Nichol) was born in Smiths Falls, Ontario (about 45 miles southwest of Ottawa) and appears to have lived there all of his life. The Canadian Museum of History has 43 of his carved birds are in their permanent collection.

    His medium was carved and painted wood lures to attract game birds. His primary subjects were North American ducks. His style was realism. The askART record has many excellent illustrations of his work.

    Nichol comes from a family of prominent decoy carvers: his uncles Adam Nichol (1864 – 1928) and David K. Nichol (see askART) were is teachers and influences. David W. ...
