    Dennis Creffield was extremely young when first introduced to David Bomberg, but unlike his great friend Dorothy Mead, he did not display the same initial negative reaction to his teaching style. Cliff Holden suggested Creffield attended Bomberg’s classes and he was swiftly invited to join the Borough Group in 1949. Creffield’s incredible technical facility, particularly in charcoal, was evident very early in his career. He and Mead regularly worked together sketching outdoors. Of all the members of the Group (with the exception of Bomberg himself), Creffield was arguably the artist who gained the greatest public acclaim, yet this is relative; R.B.
