Desiderio Hernández Xochitiotzin was an outstanding painter of Tlaxcaltean origin, belonging to the second generation of the muralist movement of the twentieth century. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Puebla and later traveled to Europe for some time. While there he realized a period of strong artistic influence. Plastic and historical investigations were a feature of Desiderio's work, an example of which is the constant study of his roots, which made him a learned expert on the history and culture of his home state. In addition, as a muralist, architect, historian and lecturer, he traveled through several states of the republic, including the northern area, where Cerralvo, the oldest municipality in Nuevo Leon, is located.
