    Desmond Carrick (1928 - )
    Born in Dublin, for nearly thirty years Desmond Carrick worked in the laboratory of the Guinness brewery following his father's footsteps. Despite this career he was able to pursue his passion for art through evening classes at the National College of Art. In 1951 he was commissioned to paint a mural in the Guinness visitors' center in St. James' Gate and in the same year gathered recognition as a painter when he exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy for the first time. In 1968, Desmond Carrick was elected full member of the RHA and became one of its most eminent and active members, serving as Secretary until 1982.
