    Edward Gorokhovsky was born in 1929 in Vinnitsa, Ukraine. In 1954 he graduated in architecture at the State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture in Odessa. A year later, he participated for the first time in an exhibition of the Artists’ Union of Novosibirsk.

    Gorokhovsky moved to Moscow in 1973 and has since exhibited regularly in Russia and abroad. From 1991 onwards, he lived and worked in Germany. Gorokhovsky is regarded as the founder of Russian photo-based art, he was one of the first Soviet artists to use photographic material as the basis of his paintings.
