About Edward Hald

  • Biography

Recognized as one of Sweden's foremost glass artists but undoubtedly he is also a very skilled painter and graphic artist. Edward Hald grew up in Stockholm and already at a young age developed a dream of becoming a painter. After studying in Leipzig and Dresden, he traveled to Copenhagen and finally to the center of art Paris.

In the French capital he devoted himself with great enthusiasm to painting and was enrolled for a period at Henri Matisse's painting school, considered one of the foremost and most radical courses the city had to offer. Many were the young Swedish artists who traveled to Paris in the early 1900s and Hald studied alongside Isaac Grünewald, Sigrid Hjertén and Leander Engström among several others.
