About Edward Piper

  • Biography

Edward Piper was the eldest son of artist John Piper. He attended the Bath Academy of Art, Corsham and Slade School of Art. Piper was interested in Pop Art during the 1960s period, using bright colours and flat, block colours to create his compositions. He repeatedly returned to the motif of the female nude, exploring and celebrating the female body. Later, he moved into watercolour using line and studying French artists closely such as Matisse. His life was cut tragically short when he was diagnosed with lung cancer and died at the age of just fifty-one.
