    Elisabeh Karlinksky-Scherfig was born in 1905. She was the daughter of the painter Anton Karlinsky (1872-1945).

    Elisabeth studied at the School of Arts and Crafts from 1921 with Cizek and in the textile workshop with Rothansl.

    Around 1922 / 23 she completed the Ornamentation Course and then studied in the Ornamental Forms Department with Cizek and in the Glass Painting Workshop. She then did tutorials with Klaus (until 1924 / 25) and a specialized painting course with Löffler.

    In 1926, she won the Lobmeyr Prize for the kinetic stained glass she produced with Klaus and made her first trip to Paris. She wass active as an artist starting around 1926 or 1927.
