    Emil Lindeman, Polish 1864-1945

    A native of Warsaw, he initially studied drawing under Wojciech Gerson, receiving a letter of commendation from the Petersburg Academy. In the years 1888 thru 1890 he studied at the Krakow School of Fine Arts under Jan Matejko. Lindeman moved on to Paris in 1890, where he began studies at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, in addition to The Academy Julian under W.A. Bouguereau and the Academy Colarossi under Raphael Collin. In May of 1897, after a short stay at the Royal Institute of Fine Arts in Rome, he returned to Warsaw.

    He became known for his small sized oil and watercolor paintings of landscapes of the Warsaw countryside as well as panoramas of Polish and European cities....
