    Emile Charles Appay was a French water colorist born in the Eure in 1876 and died in 1935.

    Appay spent his childhood in Paris where his father was a lithographer printer, which influenced his interest in art. Emile Charles studied under Henri Harpignies and Paul Lecomte and was a close friend of André Derain.

    During World War I, Emile Charles Appay served as a soldier and created numerous drawings from the combat zones, particularly in the Aisne. Appay often painted rivers and fishing scenes with his friends and exhibited his work in various galleries in Paris, including those of Georges Petit, Pierre Le Chevallier, Jules Gautier, and P. Hénaut.
