    Erich Conrad Leonor Friedrich Kips was a German painter and illustrator born in Berlin in 1869. He studied at the Unterrichtsanstalt am Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin with Emil Doepler the Younger and Max Friedrich Koch, and later at the Academy of Karlsruhe with Caspar Ritter. Kips painted some rooms at the Chicago World's Fair in 1893 and went on a three-year study trip through Italy. He also studied at the Académie Julian in Paris with William Bouguereau, Gabriel Ferrier, and Eugène Girardet. Kips was a member of the exhibitions of the Glaspalast Munich from 1899 and the Great Berlin Art Exhibition from 1901.
