About Ernest Longfellow

    Ernest Longfellow was a painter of landscapes, coastal and marine scenes, as well as figures. His reputation came from his Oriental and foreign scenes including Egypt and Japan.

    He was born at the Craigie House (Vassall-Craigie-Longfellow House) at 105 Brattle St, Cambridge, Massachusetts., and his parents were poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Fanny Longfellow. Ernest and his wife Hattie (Spellman) Longfellow later had homes in Manchester-by-the-Sea and Cambridge, Massachusetts.
    His family home, now Longfellow National Historic Site, is under the management of the National Park Service (2003) and has extensive Longfellow family papers and the largest repository of Ernest W. Longfellow's art with hundreds of his drawings and pa...
