    Born in Wieprzyce in today's Poland, Ernst Henseler (1852-1940) studied at the Berlin Art School around 1870, and at the Weimar Art School under Karl Gussow, Albert Bauer and Albert Brendel until 1877. Beginning in 1881, he taught at the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Berlin. From 1888, he was a professor of nude drawing at the Technische Hochschule in Berlin. In the summer months, he spent every year in his homeland and created there mainly landscapes, portraits and history paintings.

    Henseler has been awarded the Knight’s Cross of 1st class of the Grand Duke of Weimar, as well as gold medals from Berlin, London and Paris. From 1877, he presented his work at the exhibitions of the Berliner Akademie,...
