    The artistic career of Eugène Laurent (1832-1898), a French sculptor, began by studying sculpture under the direction of Théodore Coinchon (1814-1881). Regularly participating in the Salon of French artists, Laurent quickly acquired a good reputation as a classical sculptor and rose to fame.

    He participated for the first time in the Salon in 1861. He became known for his classical subjects, his portraits of celebrities in bust and was chosen to create public monuments, such as his Jacques Callot in Nancy, and his François Boucher , exhibited at the Paris City Hall.
