Spars had early involvement in the Wandervogel movement and proletarian youth. From 1923-29 he studied at the School of Applied Arts in Hamburg with Arthur Illies. After that, he was freelancing in Hamburg. In 1930/31 Stipendum at the instigation of Max Sauerlandt for a study stay in Paris and the first exhibitions at Kunstverein Hamburg. Before 1933, he joined the Hamburg artistry and in 1933 the New Munich Artists' Association. In the Nazi period repeated house searches by the Gestapo in Hamburg studio lead to the view and seizures of his "degenerate" works. In 1936 he took a trip to Italy with a long stay in...
