    Fr. Jack P. Hanlon (1913-1968) Hanlon was one of a number of Irish artists attracted to the decorative qualities of French modernism. He painted with a palette literally saturated with white and tended to leave areas of white ground exposed at the edges of objects, thereby giving a radiance to his works. During the 1930s Hanlon took regular painting holidays in France. In Paris he worked for periods in the studios of André Lhote and other modern artists. By 1936 he had also begun to exhibit at the RHA, a practice he would soon abandon in favour of more progressive exhibiting societies such as the Dublin Painters group.
