  • Biography from Kunst& Auktionshaus Eva Aldag (CLOSED)

Feodor Szerbakow was born on February 2, 1911 in Eckertsdorf (East Prussia). He was a Russian-German landscape and still-life painter. In 1928 he left his home and went to Szczecin. The young man from the silent forests became a painter. Because he had no money, Fedor paid his art teacher with ink drawings. Even later his promoters were paid with pictures. When the masurische farm boy with nature in the heart and the brush in hand went to Berlin drew to study at the School of Art at Buchholz, Hentschke and Lange painting, home was more distant than ever. City bustle, bustle, faster everyday, noise, wieselnde people busy as ants in their construction. In 1933, he came with his wife Frieda to Worpswede. The Devil's Moor, the river landscape, the silence and the solitude in all their glory have done it to the artist. He wanted to stay. The great Otto Modersohn was his role model and his teacher. He was his pupil, without losing their own handwriting. Master and pupil worked together and are artistically closely linked. Soon a master happened to the students themselves. The abrupt end of artistic creation came with the Second World War. He was conscripted. Even long after the war, he rested brush and palette to weigh heavily the experiences of the year. After the war, he studied then followed in the South Pacific. Fedor Szerbakow had occasional exhibitions there, but he discovered another hobby that drove him to scientific curiosity: botany. He became a landscape painter of plants grown on a specially cultivated wasteland, exotic flowers and ornamental plants. Only in the 70s the heart of the now extremely experienced botanist painting gave way again. In the continuation of the artist's life success and recognition remained insufficient. Known for his landscape paintings from Teufelsmoor, the vastness of the landscape invites the viewer not only to stay, but they also awaken the desire to discover the unspoiled nature, to understand the pulling heavy clouds as fascinating sky game.
