    Ferdinand Fagerlin was a Swedish painter who was born in 1825 and passed away in 1907. He was inspired by Norwegian painters Adolf Tidemand and Hans Gude, and traveled to Düsseldorf, Germany where he settled for the rest of his life.

    Fagerlin's paintings were primarily focused on Dutch and North Sea coastal scenes, with a sharp eye for detail and realism. Ferdinand brought this style back to Sweden and was praised by critics for his soulful and superior depictions of human life. Fagerlin considered himself Swedish and was involved in the Opponents' protest against the Academy in 1885.
