    Francesco Rosa was an artist who arrived in Venice in 1663. He was a pupil of Giovan Battista Langetti and was considered one of the best artists of the tenebrist style. He went to Munich in 1675 and became the first painter at the court of Maximilian II Emmanuel Wittelsbach. He was known for his altarpiece of him with the Miracle of Sant'Antonio da Padova in the basilica of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. He died in Venice after a long pilgrimage to Europe.
