    Francisco Salazar (b. 1937) is a Venezuelan artist who traveled to Paris in 1967 where he caught up with compatriot Jesus Rafael Soto. There he dropped the modernist inspired landscapes he began at University and adopted an optical abstraction that he would become known for. His main artistic development has been around the optical phenomena of light on white plains and corrugated paper.

    He had early success with participation in XXVII Salon Oficial de Arte Venezolano at the Museo de Bellas Arte in 1967, the Salon Arturo Michelena, Ateneo de Valencia in 1967, the Paris Biennial in 1967 (first prize winner), the Bienal de Codex, Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1968 (first prize winner), and the Bienal de Cotejar, Medellin, Columbia in 1969...
